Creating
A Future
Faith
Lutheran Church is GROWING! Current Sunday worship
attendance is regularly 300 people. Nursery and Sunday y School classes
are offered during the services and classrooms are overflowing. The
Sunday contemporary service is thriving. Five Christmas services and
numerous Christmas pageants bring joy to hundreds. Additional pastoral
supports, including an associate pastor and youth minister have been
added. With 780 baptized members and 260 of those being between infancy
and senior high school age, FAITH’s youth programs and ministries for
all ages are flourishing!
FAITH
is an “all week” church filled with Bible study groups, music
ministries, workshops, classes, retreats, the Logos Program, Youth
Serving God, Altar Guild, Prime Timers, Empty Nesters, First Communion
and Confirmation classes, a high school group, Vacation Bible School,
social fellowships, ministries and outreach programs.
Our current sanctuary, fellowship hall, meeting rooms and offices are
being strained to accommodate all our needs for worship, fellowship,
ministry and Christian education. What a blessing for FAITH to be
serving more children, more individuals and more families!

Current Status
September 2008
The early
site plan (Parking, drainage, roads, walkways, etc.) is complete but
needs to be modified to meet our needs and budget. The BOF committee
met with the Town of Andover officials and boards this month to
"informally" present our plans. There was good discussion and
suggestions made which we will make part of our formal proposal when we
apply for permitting. The 3-D model of the new building is now
available to view in the narthex of the church
August 2008
The
schematic plan (concept) is more detailed now. The wetlands have
been defined by the civil engineer and a plan to handle storm water
runoff is in the early design stage. A Three dimensional model of the
new building plan, as developed so far, has been donated by Faith
member, Craig Calson's company, InDepth
Design. Construction of this model is underway and will be
available in September.
Great
progress has been made! We now have a plan with the sanctuary in the
back of the property to avoid front setback issues and moved south to
avoid the wetland
setback concerns. We also have hired a civil engineer to work on the
site plan, drainage and other issues. The new sanctuary will have
an entrance south of the existing entrance. Check out early views of
the footprint here.
June 2008
Various
options have been explored for the placement of the Sanctuary both for
"traffic flow", visual impact and meeting town concerns. The plan to
place the sanctuary out front requires town approval (variance) since
it violates the front setback distance, the plan to place the sanctuary
in the back violates the wetlands setback distance. Other placement
options are being considered.
May 2008
The architects (Maugel, Architects http://www.maugel.com/
) are in the
schematic design phase. This means that they are designing the new
spaces, reusing existing spaces and solving problems with location of
important functions. They along with the"Building on Faith" or BOF
committee need to secure
Town of Andover approval for the new design. The total cost for
the project is only partially defined and
there are some decisions that need to be made such as how close can we
build to property lines and to the wetlands in the back of the
property. Fund raising is continuing and the more we can raise the
better off we are both in making these choices as well as reducing any
need to take out a mortgage.

New Facilities
We are Expanding our space to support
our ministries.
The project is called "Building on Faith" or BOF and adds new space and
reuses
existing space to meet these needs. An early concept of the plan is now
available for viewing. There are two plans-- a "Master Plan" that fills
the planning needs listed by the committee and a "Phase One" plan that
meets many needs and, we hope, can be built
with funds of our pledge goal. If additional construction monies are
made
available (more pledges, bonds, loans), additional work "Phase Two" and
"Phase Three" are possible.

The views are footprints and floor plans, 3-D model views and Computer
drawings. These views are not
created by the
architects but are created by BOF members. The quality is less than
views and presentations by the architects but , we hope, is helpful to
your understanding of the project. There will be changes made as new
ideas are
added and problems are solved. Click one of the buttons to the right to
see what is planned so far.
Note: for the 3-D model you need Microsoft Powerpoint.

FAQs
Why
have phases?--The project has been divided into phases because
the
total construction cost
for the master plan is greater than the funding pledged by the
congregation. Phase 1 should be affordable with funds to be raised in
our phase 1 funding program
and adds important new worship space and frees up space in the
old sanctuary for many other programs needs. Additional needs can be
met
(phase 2 and phase 3), if additional funds are provided.
What is in
phase 1?--Phase 1 builds
a new 250 person sanctuary. The parking and drop off driveway is moved.
New bathrooms (handicap accessible) are built. The "old" sanctuary
space becomes a large gathering/flex space to support fellowship, youth
and Christian education. The kitchen, choir, youth meeting and admin
spaces will not change. However, there may be a plan to move the
nursery space into a corner of the old sanctuary to make it closer to
worship and to give more space for admin. Other ideas for use of our
new "flex" space are also being discussed.
When is Construction?--Construction
will be timed to the weather and to minimize disruption to the worship
and other programs of the church. Before we can start, the Town of
Andover must approve our plans and a Congregational meeting is needed
to approve construction and to determine which phases to fund.
Watch for these goals to be completed.
